Environmental Sustainability<\/h2>\n

Sustainable innovation:<\/strong> Spanish broccoli and artichoke producers are leveraging innovative agricultural techniques, such as crop rotation and integrated pest management (IPM) to maintain soil health and reduce the use of phytosanitary products. In addition, French strawberry growers are implementing organic farming techniques and promoting pollinator-friendly farming methods, supporting the resilience of local ecosystems, while Fraises de France has launched a National Experimentation Program, with the aim of improving cultivation practices and fruit quality through innovation. 7% of French strawberries come from organic farming, ranking among the leaders in Europe and the world.<\/p>\n

Responsible water use:<\/strong> In regions such as Murcia, which accounts for more than 40% of the national artichoke production, growers have adopted precision irrigation techniques to minimize water waste. In addition, French strawberry production focuses on controlled environment agriculture (CEA), which allows for better water management and less use of pesticides.<\/p>\n

Food safety and traceability:<\/strong> the European production model is a benchmark in these issues, and the sectors represented in the campaign not only follow its rules and regulations, but go further.<\/p>\n

Almost 44 million jobs in the EU (agriculture and food sectors).<\/p>\n

Broccoli:<\/strong> Spain has around 50,000 hectares of broccoli production, which represents 600,000 tonnes of fresh product. Spain produces half of the broccoli that is exported and consumed in Europe.<\/p>\n

Artichoke:<\/strong> Spain is the world’s second largest producer, with 201,900 tonnes (2022), only behind Italy. 60% is destined for industry, and the remaining 40% for fresh consumption. About 75% of the latter remains in the domestic market and the remaining 25% is exported, mainly to France, Italy, Germany.<\/p>\n

Strawberries<\/strong>: French production in 2023 was 73,836 tonnes (+32.89% in the period 2016-2023). 87% is consumed in the domestic market.<\/p>\n

For regions such as Murcia, which concentrates 80% of Spanish broccoli production and 40% of artichoke production,<\/strong> these products are intrinsically linked to the culture of many villages and the permanence of the population in the rural environment. In the case of artichoke, this can also be said of other areas such as the Valencian Community, Navarre, Andalusia and La Rioja.<\/p>\n

The main strawberry areas in France are located in the southwest of the country (Lot-et-Garonne), where the climatic conditions allow the cultivation of a sweeter and more aromatic strawberry, which is more accepted by consumers. With more than 35 varieties,<\/strong> strawberry culture is widespread in the country, with its flagship being the La Gariguette variety, recognizable by its slender and elongated shape.<\/p>\n
